Etymology

From the Latin galea, meaning helmet, and andr-, meaning anther, referring to the helmet-shaped anther.

Distribution

A genus of about 25 species found from Mexico to Bolivia. Galeandra section Galeandra includes epiphytic species with wpindle-shaped pseudobulbs and flowers either without callus or with callus of low keels such as G. baueri Lindley. Galeandra section Riv
