MARTIN HUGHES-GAMES co-presents the BBC's Springwatch and Autumnwatch programmes, having worked in television for over 30 years. He trained as a zoologist before joining the BBC science department as a producer. He is also an obsessive motorcyclist, passionate climber and chicken fancier.

Most of us take for granted the ability to see wildlife on TV and I for one rarely think about the lengths to which people must go to get the extraordinary footage.

This book is a real eye-opener on the subject, combining a very enjoyable memoire/travelogue, with fascinating tips-of-the-trade and assorted wildlife facts. TV wildlife producer, Martin Hughes-Games takes us through his far from ordinary life creating and gathering footage to amaze us. From how to stage a realistic car crash following a spider incident, to simulating a crocodile’s death roll, and how to track polar bears across miles of icy wastes – I gleaned far, far more.

This is a fascinating book on how to manage not only unruly wildlife, but also film crews, actors and presenters.

I've always thought Martin gets the rough deal on Springwatch when deposited on a remote Scottish hillside to camp in the snow but that's nothing compared to some of his other adventures. This book describes some of those adventures, and what a great book it is - interesting, amusing, informative and anecdotal. Very enjoyable to read. He's a cheery chap with a love for life that comes over in his presenting and his writing. Some great photos as well! Thoroughly recommend if you are interested in the natural world.

Greatly enjoying this book. I am very fond of Martin Hughes-Games on the Springwatch etc series, but this book really gives a great and humorous invite into his time spent with creatures of all kinds. A great book and I like the way it is set into different stories in different chapters, making it nice to dip into.
