Editorial Reviews
Deluxe two CD + DVD edition. Digitally remastered and expanded edition. All of the tracks have been remastered from fresh transfers of the original analog tapes. Each package includes lyrics, rare photos and memorabilia plus new sleeve notes written by Kim Wilde expert Marcel Rijs. Select is the second studio album by Kim Wilde, released on 10 May 1982 via RAK label. The first single from this album, "Cambodia", was released in November 1981 and signaled a different sound from the Wilde camp, with an electronic and synth sound different from the rock sound of her last album. The songs were again written by Marty and Ricky Wilde and produced by Ricky Wilde. This sequel to the debut album topped the charts in a host of European countries and hit #8 in Australia.

This one, is loud enough to listen to on your iPhone, but also sounds incredibly dynamic, spacious and makes for a more pleasant, immersive listening experience.
I was simply blown when A/B comparing 2009 to 2020 “child come away” - the 2009 suffers from an overblown mid range and a dramatic boost at 250khz, probably meant to give it a little “oomph”. However, the 2020 one has virtually all of his dynamics intact, sounds warm and the detail is extraordinary
Other than that, the rough mixes on Disc 2 provide some insight on the production phase, and give a fresh perspective on the track - no staggering differences, though.
The new mixes are stunning - Matt Pop’s Cambodia mix is a flawless 7:30 opus that could easily be the 1981 12” mix that never was
The View from a Bridge mix is a reggae-tinged Grace Jones meets The Special version of the original that could easily be a stand among other 2020 indie electro pop tracks. Child come away is taken a ride on the Kraftwerk Intercity Express and takes the track to a whole new level. The rest is good, but not as stunning
Would definitely recommend this one, even if someone already owns the 2009 remaster or the original. If you like this album, this edition provides the most immersive, A-Grade version of it.
(The artwork/packaging is stunning as well)
2 thumbs up!
