Abstract:
Reciprocal crosses between chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum) and ten other Dendranthema species (D. arcticum subsp. maekawanum, D. boreale, D. crassum, D. indicum, D. japonicum, D. ornatum, D. occidentali-japonense var. ashizuriense, D. pacificum, D. yoshinaganthum, D. zawadskii var. latilobum) native to Japan were performed.
The results showed that the reciprocal crosses between chrysanthemum and other species are possible when the appropriate genotype is carefully chosen.
Hybrid progenies showed a wide range of variations in the flowers.
The hybrids required shorter days to flower than native species.
