The palynomorphological features of four species belonging to the genus Silene (Silene italica, Silene armeria, Silene pusilla and Silene fabarioides) from different regions of Albania, were investigated and studied by light microscope. This study aims to assess and highlight the existence of significant differences in pollen size, distance between two pores, the exine sculpture and pores number found in these species. Pollen grains were usually radially symmetrical, polar, polypantoporate, spheroidal. The pores were circular contours, operculate which due to thickening of intine in this zone, come out like a cupole. The number of pores varied from 20 to 26 in Silene italica, from 16 to 20 pores in Silene fabarioides and Silene armeria, and from 12 to 16 pores in Silene pusilla. The ornamentations of exine varied from microechinate to microperforate (punctate) at Silene italica, Silene fabarioides and Silene pusilla, whereas at Silene armeria the sculpure of exine was reticulate. With about 110 species in the geographic area of Iran, genus Silene (Caryophyllaceae) is expanding. Of these, about 35 are endemic species. This seed morphological study was carried out into 15 populations of three species from this section, in different regions of Iran, using 15 qualitative and quantitative characteristics. Statistical results have confirmed that such features as shape, length and width of seed, size and coat decoration cells indicate the greatest diversity in the studied populations. In the morphological studies of pollen grains, 22 populations of six species were considered for the first time. Pollen grains were spherical, monad and polypantoporate. Diagnostic values of seed and pollen features have been discussed.

Abstract: Silene L. the largest genus of the family Caryophyllaceae with 700 species, is distributed mainly in the Northern hemisphere, Europe, Asia and northern Africa. The pollen morphology of 5 taxa belonging to the sections Inflatae Boiss. and Auriculatae Boiss. was examined with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Pollen types among all of the examined taxa were spheroidal, the ornamentations were perforate-Microechinate in section Auriculatae but microechinate-microperforate in section inflatae. The structure of pore aperture was protuberant in all species of section inflatae but depressed in section Auriculatae. UPGMA clustering of the species of two sections studied based on quantitative and qualitative characters separated species from 2 sections. Key words: Silene Palynology SEM Auriculatae Inflatae UPGMA
The seed and pollen grain micromorphologies of 10 taxa of the Silene sections Behenantha and Dichotomae (Caryophyllaceae) were analyzed in this study. Although the seeds of the analyzed taxa were generally reniform, S. tenuiflora and S. koycegizensis from the section Behenantha were clearly distinct from other taxa, while subspecies of S. dichotoma and S. euxina in the section Dichotomae showed differences. Pollen grains are periporate and spheroidal and ornamentation is generally spinulate-microperforate in all taxa. However, ornamentation is spinulate in S. euxina and semireticulate in S. koycegizensis. While the exine structure is generally tectate, it is semitectate in S. koycegizensis. It was found that S. heldreichii and S. cariensis subsp. muglae had the highest number of pores, while S. dichotoma subsp. racemosa had the lowest number of pores. The results showed that S. euxina can be distinguished from S. dichotoma based on morphological characteristics of their pollen grain...

and Shkodër, were analized based on the comparative methodology. Pollen grains of Linum genus, referring to the literature data [7], and the six plants studied: capitatum, flavum, elegans, nodiflorum, hologynum and tenuifolium, resulted to be three zonocolpate, isopolar, radiosymmetric with spheroidal shape in polar view and oval in equatorial one. The exine sculpture varied from reticulate to granulate at the pollen grains of elegans specie, to clavateechinate at the pollen grains of capitatum specie, to clavate-baculate at the pollen grains of flavum specie. The exine of pollen grains of tenuifolium specie varied from microechinate to baculate, while exine of nodiflorum and hologynum species varied from granulate to baculate. Average dimensions (width and length) of pollen grains of the six plants of Linum genuswere bigger at Linum nodiflorum and smaller at flavum and tenuifolium plant. The furrow length appeared with bigger values at Linum nodiflorum and with smaller ones at Linum capitatum, while the furrow width appeared bigger at Linum flavum and smaller at Linum tenuifolium. The mesocolpium was bigger at Linum nodiflorum and smaller at Linum elegans. The exine thickeness appeared with bigger values at Linum nodiflorum and with smaller one at Linum flavum.
