The dichloromethane extract of the pericarp of Abrus precatorius afforded abrusogenin, saturated monoglyceride and unsaturated triglyceride. The seeds yielded a mixture of stigmasterol and -sitosterol in a 4:1 ratio, while the peduncle afforded unsaturated triglyceride. The structures of 1 and saturated monoglyceride were elucidated by extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy. The structures of triglyceride, stigmasterol and -sitosterol were identified by comparison of their 13C NMR data with those reported in the literature. Antimicrobial tests on 1, monoglyceride and triglyceride indicated that they are active against S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis, C. albicans and T. mentagrophytes. All compounds tested are inactive against A. niger, while only 1 is active against E. coli.

A brief review on a traditional herb: abrus precatorius (L.)Abrusprecatorius is commonly known as Gunja or Jequirity belonging to Fabaccae-a pea family, abundantly found all throughout the plains of India, from Himalaya down to Southern India and Ceylon. The plant is considered as a valuable source of unique natural products for development of medicines against various diseases. The roots, seeds and leaves are used in traditional folklore medicine. Much research work has been conducted on Abrusprecatorius. The pharmacological studies have shown that Abrusprecatorius possesses a number of biological activities such as anti-bacterial, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-fertility, nehroprotective, anti-seratonergic, etc. As this plant has some potential medicinal value, it has some toxic effect too due to presence of "abrin" component which is fatal to human being. The present review represents the nature, pharmacological actions, chemical constituents, toxicity and forensic significance related to Abrusprecatorius.

The medicinal values of Abrus precatorius: a review study2020 •
ABSTRACT: Herbal medicines are in great demand for preliminary health care due to their wide medicinal values without any side effects. Since many species are used in the system of traditional medicine, scientists have great opportunities to develop appropriate packages of practices for their multiplication and conservation. It is reported that the plant has a broad range of therapeutic potentials, like anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-tumor, analgesic, anti-spasmodic, anti-diabetic, anti-serotonergic, antimigraine, including treatment of inflammation, ulcers, wounds, throat scratches and sores. Abrus precatorius is the native plant of this Indian subcontinent and used in many ways in the traditional system of medicine considered as Ayurveda treatment. Ayurveda recommends the administration of the Abrus precatorius in disease like alopecia, edema, helminths, skin diseases, itching, urinary disorders, and antifertility. This review will help to explore the medicinal effects of the Abrus precatorius especially in the field of contraception which might be a remarkable activity in this realm. Therefore the present review is aimed to compile up the updated data and highlighting the special features on its pharmacological activities in various diseases.

Antibacterial activities of aqueous total extract, alkaloids and flavonoids of Abrus precatorius, the Ivorian herbal pharmacopoeia, were evaluated in vitro growth of Sa lmonella Typhi, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus au reus and Klebsiella pneumoniae, germs that are involved in g astroenteritis in humans. The antibacterial tests w ere performed by the methods of diffusion in solid and broth dilu tion coupled with the spread on agar plates. The mi ni um inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bacteric idal concentration (MBC) obtained showed significan t antimicrobial activities of different extracts of s eeds tested. However, alkaloids and flavonoids were l ss active against bacteria compared to the total aqueous extr act (ETA). The strong activity of ETA could be expl ained by the presence among other alkaloids and flavonoids with antibacterial properties have been proven in this s tudy.

Abrus precatorius is one of the important medicinal plant belonging to the family Fabaceae. It is used as the common effective medicinal herb in many countries. The study plant has many therapeutic values like antiinflammatory, ant diabetic, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. The present study deals with the physicochemical and preliminary phytochemical analysis of Abrus precatorius roots. Five different solvents like Hexane, Petroleum ether, Chloroform, Methanol, and Aqueous were used to obtain the extract. These extracts were subjected for physicochemical and qualitative phytochemical analysis by using the standard procedures. Physicochemical parameters like moisture content, total ash, water soluble ash and sulphated ash values were calculated. Alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides and phenols are present in the all the extracts. These bioactive compounds obtained from the phytochemical analysis may be the responsible for the pharmaceutical activity.
Abrus Precatorius is one of the important herb commonly known as Indian licorice belonging to family Fabaceae. It is reported to have a broad range of therapeutic effects, like anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-tumor, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, anti-diabetic, anti-serotonergic, anti-migraine, including treatment of inflammation, ulcers, wounds, throat scratches and sores. It is now considered as a valuable source of unique natural products for development of medicines against various diseases and also for the development of industrial products but still additional information needs to be updated. Therefore the present review is aimed to compile up the updated data and highlighting the special features on its pharmacological activities in various diseases.

QUANTITATIVE ESTIMATION AND PHARMACOLOGICAL STUDIES OF ABRUS PRECATORIUS LINN. ROOT EXTRACT2021 •
The study of plant-medicine and Phyto-compounds is the ultimate need for the hour. Since synthetic drugs have prevailed over time inflicting side effects worse than the purpose it is used for as medicine, this study gives a clue and create global awareness of Abrus Precatorius Linn, a substitute to Glycyrrhizin glabra, an important medicinal herb to be therapeutic and could be the cure to human numerous diseases such as COVID-19. The quantitative estimation of Phyto-compounds suggests the presence of tannin, phenol, steroid, flavonoid, alkaloid, and carbohydrates. These compounds are responsible for the various pharmacological activities such as antioxidant activity using DPPH, FRAP and Reducing power activity, antibacterial activity, antidiabetic activity, and anti-inflammatory properties. In all, methanol extract proved to be the leading potent potential drug extract due to the strong occurrence of polyphenolic compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and phenols. It also demonstrated significant antibacterial activity against virulent strains. The extract fraction serves as a free radical inhibitor or scavenger or acting possibly as primary oxidant and inhibited the heat-induced albumin denaturation also serving as a starch-blocker. Hereby, possess to be a promising source of novel drug formulation after purification and characterization for the treatment of various ailments.
