Pterocephalus tetraflorus S. E. Shahbaz, nom, nova, is proposed as a new name for Pterocephalus strictus Boiss. et Hohen, described by Boissier in1843, followed by Shahina and John in 2013. The description of P. tetraflorus is amended with characters of mature flowers and achenes, illustrated and its diagnostic characters, geographical distribution and habitats are presented. The species P. tetraflorus is closely related to P. strictus, but can be easily separated by forming only four-flowered capitula against numerous flowered-capitula for P. strictus and other Pterocephalus species.

Two new species of Cephalaria (Caprifoliaceae) from TurkeyTwo new Cephalaria Schrad. ex Roem. et Schult. species (Caprifoliaceae) from Turkey, Cephalaria davisiana Göktürk & Sümbül and Cephalaria sumbuliana Göktürk, are described and illustrated. A map showing their distribution and other related taxa is given. Th e morphological diff erences of the 2 new species are discussed and comparisons are made with the similar Cephalaria speciosa Boiss. & Kotschy and Cephalaria elmaliensis Hub.-Mor. & V.A.Matthews. In addition to morphological observations, C. davisiana, C. sumbuliana, C. elmaliensis, and C. speciosa were analysed by applying RAPD-PCR techniques. RAPD methods clearly distinguished between the new species and the 2 species that they resemble. Pteris geminata Wall. ex J. Agardh (Pteridaceae): a Critically Endangered Pteridophyte in IndiaTwenty five taxa of pteridophytes belonging to 8 families and 13 genera were collected during the present study from 10 different localities i.e. Abdullah Banda, Borany, Chinarkot, Fazal Abad, Konaye Khwarh, Kotkay, Monrh, Muslim Khwarh, Shahe Kot and Tarano. Pteridaceae was the leading family with 4 genera (30.76%) and 9 species (36%); followed by Dryopteridaceae with 3 genera (23.07%) and 4 species (16%); Aspleniaceae with one genus (7.69%) and 4 species (16%). Thelypteridaceae, Equisetaceae and Selaginellaceae with one genus (7.69%) and two species (8%) each. Athyriaceae and Marsilaceae with one genus and one species each. The most frequently occurring genera were Pteris L., Adiantum L., Asplenium L., Athyrium Hook., Dryopteris (Bedd.) Hay., Selaginella L., Lastrea Hook., Anogramma Link., Cheilanthes Swartz., Equisetum L., Marsilea L., Polypodium L. and Polystichum L.

This study reports data on the diversity of Pteridophyte of the "Bulgarka" Nature Park. Twenty-nine species belonging to the divisions Lycopodiophyta, Equisetophyta and Polypodiophyta were identified, including six new species to the park: Asplenium onopteris, Dryopteris dilatata, Equisetum palustre, Huperzia selago, Ophioglossum vulgatum and Polystichum lonchitis. Among the identified species the ferns were prevailing. Fifteen species were medicinal plants and eight species have conservation significance. The status of the populations and major threats to the habitats were discussed.

Diversity and distribution patterns in the pteridophyte flora of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir2017 •
Current investigation aims to analyze diversity and nature of distribution of the pteridophyte taxa of Pakistan based on published literature and current field studies by the authors. Many field visits were conducted in Hazara Division and some locations of Gilgit-Baltistan province from 2012 to 2014. An updated checklist suggests that there are 202 species and intraspecific taxa distributed in 62 genera and 19 families. Dryopteridaceae was the largest family with 47 taxa (23.5%), followed by Pteridaceae (41 taxa; 20.5%) and Woodsiaceae (21 taxa; 11.5%). Dryopteris Adonson was the largest genuswith 23 species (11.38%), followed by Asplenium L. and Polystichum Roth with 18 species (8.90 %) each. Generic index was 3.27. Sino Japanese elements were dominant with 154 taxa (78.35%), followed by Irano Turanian and Saharo Sindianelements with 6 (3.09%) species. Seventy three taxa (36.5%) were extremely rare and 36 rare (18%). Potential areas wereKashmir (110 spp.; 56.70%), Mansehra District (84 spp., 43.29%) and Abbottabad District (80 spp.; 41.23%). Neolepisorusfortunei (T.Moore) Li Wang is reported for Pakistan. The genus Neolepisorus Ching is also a new record for Pakistan.Further field studies are imperative in order to draw a true picture of the pteridophyte diversity of Pakistan especiallyfocusing North Balochistan, Kurram Agency, Dir Upper, Kohistan and Gilgit-Baltistan.Key words: Azad Kashmir, Diversity, Distribution Patterns, Pakistan, Pteridophyte Flora.

On the pteridophytes of Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary, Assam, India2021 •
A preliminary survey on the pteridophytic flora of Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary of Assam, India revealed a total of 33 species belonging to 23 genera and 15 families. Most of the species belong to the family Pteridaceae followed by Polypodiaceae and Thelypteridaceae. A brief taxonomic description of each species is provided. Stenochlaena palustris (Burm.f.) Bedd., an edible fern, grows abundantly all over, especially in the openings and clearings.
Pterocarya fraxinifolia (Lam.) Spach., a relict tree species of the Juglandaceae family, is native to the Great Caucasus, Anatolia, and to the Hyrcanian forests of the southern Azerbaijan and Northern Iran. In this study, the phylogenetic relationship of the species, sampled in selected Iranian populations, and the global biogeography of the genus Pterocarya were addressed. Leaves were collected from 8 to 10 trees from three geographically isolated habitats. The samples were analyzed with nuclear (internal transcribed spacer [ITS] regions) and chloroplast (trnH-psbA) DNA markers. The obtained results were compared and analyzed with the data registered in NCBI GenBank. It is reported that the ITS regions varied from 644 to 652 for Pterocarya genus, but we did not observe polymorphisms for Iranian Pterocarya. The phylogenetic tree divided the Pterocarya genus in three clades: clade 1 grouping exclusively the samples P. fraxinifolia, clearly separated from the East Asiatic taxa; clade 2 that includes the species P. hupehensis and P. macroptera; clade 3 clustering P. stenoptera and P. tonkinensis. Although the Iranian Pterocarya samples and P. fraxinifolia from the Caucasus were in the same clade, they presented two different secondary structures. The Iranian populations showed the maximum genetic distance with P. stenoptera and P. tonkinensis. Our analysis demonstrates that the traditional division of all the six species sampled throughout their distribution area as well as the phylogeny of the genus Pterocarya needs to be reviewed.

An updated checklist of Pteridophytes of district Mansehra, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa-Pakistan2016 •
Critical examination of the pteridophytes of District Mansehra based on our own field surveys and previous literature as well revealed the occurrence of total 130 taxa distributed in 34 genera and 17 families. Of these, 23taxa are new records for the study area, while Polystichum obliquum (D. Don) T. Moore is reported for the first time for Pakistan. Nomenclatural reassessment of previously reported taxa suggests that 23 taxa are now synonyms. Habitat-wise, 68 taxa are terrestrial, while 54 are epilithic, 5exist as epiphytes and the remaining 3 are aquatic.
