In this research study, the extract and fractions of Hertia intermedia were evaluated for phytoxicity and FTIR analysis. Phytotoxicity assay and FTIR studies were the techniques used in this research. HFHI, AFHI and BFHI showed low phytotoxicity 13%, 5% and 20% at 100 μg/mL. HFHI and AFHI exhibited moderate activity 37% and 39% at 1000 μg/mL while BFHI showed significant phytotoxicity 100% at 1000 μg/mL. The compounds present in Methanol Extract of Hertia intermedia (MEHI) with their matched spectra with those available in the libraries are D-Erythrose, Hydroxyethyl-b-cyclodextrin, Opium powder in KBR, Hydroxyethyl cellulose, Chondroitin Sulphate, 1,2,6-Trihydroxyhexane, Dextrin, Stachyose. 4H2O, Corn Syrup Solid and 1,5-Pentanediol. The compounds present in n-Hexane Fraction of Hertia intermedia (HFHI) with their matched spectra with those available in the libraries are D-Erythrose, Carboxymethyl cellulose, Sucrose in KBR, 1,3-Propanediol, Corn Syrup Solid, Hydroxyethyl cellulose, Opium powder in KBR, Hydroxyethyl cellulose, Chondroitin Sulphate, 1,2,6-Trihydroxyhexane. The compounds present in Fraction of Hertia intermedia (AFHI) with their matched spectra with those available in the libraries are Adonitol, 2,5-O-Methylene-D-Mannitol, trans-1,2-Cyclohexanediol, cis-4-Methylcyclohexanol, Tetrahydro-4H-pyran-4-ol, 2,5-Dichloro-p-xylene, Chenodeoxycholic acid, Mannito, b-D-Glucose pentacetate and D-Allose. The compounds present in Butanol Fraction of Hertia intermedia (BFHI) with their matched spectra with those available in the libraries are Butyl sulfoxide, 1,2-Pentanediol, 2-Methyl-1-Pentanol, Tributyl phosphate, Hydroxyethyl-b-cyclodextrin, 4-Methyl-1-Pentanol, Amygdain, 1,5-Pentanediol, 3, Cyclopentyl-1-propanol and 4-Ethylbenzyl alcohol
Hertia intermedia (Boiss) O. Kuntze has been used as a traditional remedy for pain killer. The sample was extracted with methanol and used for the evaluation of phytochemical constituents and its antioxidant potential. The phytochemical compounds present in the sample were tannins, terpenoids, flavonoids, steroids, coumarins and carbohydrates. Total phenolic and total flavonoid contents investigated for the tested sample were 211.8 mg tannic acid equivalent/g and 162.7 mg quercetin equivalent/g extract respectively. The antioxidant assays applied for this study were DPPH free radical scavenging assay, Ferric-ion reducing antioxidant power assay, Reducing power assay and Phosphomolybdate assay. The results on the basis of antioxidant capacity methods and high contents of phenols and flavonoids of the flower extract suggest that the sample extract can be a valuable source of antioxidant.

Pharmacognostic and Phytochemical Investigation of Heracleum Persicum Desf. Ex Fischer2016 •
Background and objectives: Heracleum persicum aerial parts have been used in Iranian folk medicine for their therapeutic activities and as a spice and flavoring agent in Iranian foods and pickles. The present research was conducted to evaluate the pharmacognostic profile of H. persicum which will be useful in standardization for quality, purity, and sample identification. Methods: For quality control, phytochemical and physicochemical parameters such as macroscopic and microscopic evaluations, loss on drying, total ash value, acid insoluble ash, fluorescence standards of the drug and other tests were carried out using the flowers, fruits, stems and leaves of the plant. Volatile and Non-volatile Phytochemicals from Roots and Leaves of Heracleum lasiopetalum and their Radical Scavenging AbilityHeracleum lasiopetalum belongs to the Apiaceae family and is native to Iran. The fruits and seeds of the herb are used as spices and food additives. The genus has significant pharmacological activities. In order to study the phytochemicals of H. lasiopetalum, aerial parts of the plant were conducted to a separation process. Different chromatographic techniques were employed for the purification of its natural products. The chemical structure of the isolated metabolites was determined using spectroscopic methods such as NMR and IR as well as elemental analysis. Moreover, the essential oil composition of roots and aerial parts of the herb were characterized using GC-MS analysis. The purified compounds were elucidated as beta-sitosterol (plant steroid) and suberosin (coumarin). Petroleum ether, CHCl3 and CH3OH extracts of leaves of Heritiera littoralis (Aiton), Madhuca longifolia (König) Macbr., Nerium indicum Mill. and Sapium indicum (Willd.) were subjected to assess cytotoxicity against Artemia salina (L.) nauplii. The petroleum ether extract of H. littoralis leaves showed LC50 values 273.77, 97.27, 51.60, 37.12, 14.60 and 12.59 ppm after 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 and 42 h; the CHCl3 extract showed LC50 values 733.25, 105.51, 40.72 and 18.20 ppm after 6, 12, 18 and 24 h whereas CH3OH extract showed 73.05, 30.62, 24.56, 20.85, 16.21 and 6.71 ppm after 6, 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36 h of exposure respectively. The petroleum ether extract of M. longifolia leaves possess LC50 values 259.35, 115.17, 56.84 and 8.73 ppm after 12, 18, 24 and 30 h; the CHCl3 extract possess LC50 values 585.43, 205.86, 112.74, 75.62, 52.84and 47.34 ppm after 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 and 42 h but CH3OH extract possess LC50 values 185.87, 60.70, 30.11 and 15.39 ppm after 12, 18, 24 and 30 h of exposure respectively. The petroleum ether extract of N. Indicum leaves recorded LC50 values 249.82, 146.07, 80.23, 54.21 and 40.19 ppm after 18, 24, 30, 36 and 42 h; the CHCl3 extract gave LC50 values 36.13, 21.72, 19.03, 16.81 and 16.34 ppm after 12, 18, 24, 30 and 36 h but CH3OH extract recorded LC50 values 394.90, 129.69, 81.50, 73.10 and 37.51 ppm after 18, 24, 30, 36 and 42 h of exposure respectively. Similarly, the petroleum ether extract of S. indicum leaves showed LC50 values 24.79, 13.18 and 4.61 ppm after 12, 18 and 24 h; the CHCl3 extract were 50.45, 42.64, 21.20 and 14.93 ppm after 18, 24, 30 and 36 h of exposure and the CH3OH extract showed LC50 values 306.37, 217.18, 149.38, 73.52, 54.45 and 22.91 ppm after 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 and 42 h of exposure respectively. The intensity of efficacy of the extracts could be arranged in the following descending order of S. indicum (petroleum etroleum ether extract) >H. littoralis (CH3OH extract) >M. longifolia (petroleum ether extract) >N. indicum (CHCl3 extract).
