Salacca secunda Griff. (Arecaceae) is know to be distributed in NE India, Myanmar, Thailand and Malaysia. In India it is known to grow in states like Arunachal Pradesh (Patkai and Mishmi Hills of Eastern Himalaya), Assam, Nagaland and Darjeeling district of West Bengal. In existing literature description of the plant is quite insufficient. The present article provided a detailed and comprehensive morphological description of all its plant-parts including vegetative, male and female flowers, fruits, seeds, endosperm and embryo. Photographs of all plant parts have been provided in two coloured-plates. The Typification of the species was lacking. So, here it has been typified with table no. 177 (CAL), prepared by Griffith himself, and is now treated here as Lectotype for Salacca secunda Griff. Confusions regarding the Type-locality of the species also has been discussed in detail. Detailed discussion on the distribution, habitat preference, associated species, etc. for Salacca secunda also has been covered in this article.
Seven species of Areca (Arecaceae) are here described as new: Areca bakeri, A. churchii, A. dransfieldii, A. gurita, A. mogeana, A. riparia and A. triginticollina. Five of the species are endemic to Borneo, one to Sumatra and one to Cambodia. A discussion of morphological characters, such as habit, leaf structure, inflorescence architecture and floral structure is presented for the species and putative relatives. Distribution, ecology, habitat, uses and conservation status are also discussed.

MAT-SALLEH, K., MAHYUNI, R., SUSATYA, A. & VELDKAMP, J. F. 2010. Rafflesia lawangensis (Rafflesiaceae), a new species from Bukit Lawang, Gunung Leuser National Park, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Reinwardtia 13(2): 159-165. - Rafflesia lawangensis (Rafflesiaceae), a new species from Bukit Lawang, Gunung Leuser National Park, North Sumatra is described. The species was previously recorded as either R. arnoldi or R. atjehensis, but it is distinguished by the absence of windows, the large undulating exterior annulus, the short pubescence on the upper surface of perigone lobes, and the very wide of diaphragm opening. A key to species of Sumatran Raffesia is provided.
The genus Salacia (Celastraceae: Salaciodeae) in peninsular India is revised, wherein ten species are recognised. Eight species are endemic to the region. Salacia macrophylla and S. reticulata are excluded from the revision as occurrence of both the species is doubtful in mainland India. Salacia macrosperma exhibits great variation in leaf shape, flower number, pedicel length and fruit texture, hence the morphologically similar species S. beddomei and S. vellaniana are relegated to its synonymy. Descriptions, photographs, and pen and ink as well as colour drawings of all recognised Salacia species are provided with an artificial key, updated nomenclature, and synonymy. Distribution and IUCN Red list categories and criteria are also discussed. Seven binomials, S. fruticosa, S. macrophylla, S. macrosperma, S. oblonga, S. ovalis, Tontelea prinoides and Johnia coromadeliana are lectotypified.

Rafflesia kemumu is a new species described from Northern Bengkulu in Sumatra, Indonesia. The species resembles R. gadutensis in size of the open flower, but differs from it with regard to the color and wart ornamentation on the upper surface of the perigone lobes, color and presence/absence of warts on the upper surface of the diaphragm, blots pattern on the two concentric rings of windows near the diaphragm opening, types and distribution of ramenta, number and shapes of processes, and number of anthers. The new species has orange to dark orange perigone lobes with warts of two sizes, in which smaller warts are often merged, and surround larger ones, and 23 slender, conical processes with rounded apex, arranged in two concentric rings (15 and 7 processes each) and a single process in the center of the disc. Rafflesia kemumu has no warts at its upper surface of diaphragm, simple and compound toadstool ramenta on its upper perigone tube and the lower part of the lower surface of its...
A new species of palm, Pinanga schwanerensis, is described and illustrated here. This is the third species of Pinanga to have been described from Kalimantan since the description of P. salicifolia Blume and P. albescens Becc. A discussion of its morphological characters, distribution, ecology, habitat and conservation status is provided.
