Before Union
Wheeler transferred to Union after two seasons at Siena College. He was named to the MAAC Honor Roll in 2019 and the MAAC All-Academic Team in 2020. Wheeler was a member of the 4.0 Club and was named to the President's List twice and the Dean's List once. Wheeler prepped at Ichabod Crane Senior High School, where he was a five-time Colonial Council All-Star and three-time NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete. He hit .391 and .382, respectively, during his junior and senior seasons. The five-year letterman holds the record for most games played at his high school.

Off the field, Wheeler was a member of the National Honors Society and graduated third in his class.
