Grown from an underground rhizome, Gloxinia perennis has a small, erect stem and can grow up to 2-5 feet in height. The plant has bright green, scalloped leaves with a velvety texture, which can grow up to 6 inches in length. In spring and summer, the plant produces bell-shaped flowers of blue, lavender, and purple colors. It is a popular plant among gardeners, who admire its beauty and appreciate its ethnomedical properties.

In order to grow Gloxinia perennis successfully, it is important to provide the plant with semi-shade and regular water. Most gardeners recommend light soils with good drainage combined with some organic matter, such as coconut coir or peat moss, as the perfect growing medium. In mild climates, the plant can be grown outdoors or in planters, while in colder areas it is advised to cultivate the plant in pots. In regions with cold winters and frost, it is important to bring the pots indoors and place them in a warm location, such as a heated greenhouse or conservatory.

Plant care is also essential in order to keep the plant healthy, with regular fertilization and deadheading of spent blossoms. In cold regions, the pot should also be insulated and protected from extreme temperatures, along with adequate water supply, to ensure successful growth and better flowering.
