I fed the newly obtained curly hair tarantula (Brachypelma albopilosum) in its container, added a little bit of water to moisten the substrate, and set out Sunday to purchase a larger container.
After the purchase, I returned to school to transfer the tarantula to its new, considerably larger container. I discovered the tarantula upside down, moving very slightly, on a thin, newly spun silk hammock. The tarantula was beginning to molt. I have to admit that even though I now know what is happening, I still find the upside down, not moving thing to be pretty disturbing…
I put the lid back on the container and very carefully took the container home so that I could photograph the molt, as well as assist (whatever that means!) if anything proved problematic during the process.
The molt process took several hours. I photographed at several points during the molt. I anticipate putting up images of the process later this week.
My curly hair is turning white on its legs and a litle on its body is that normal???
Mist the bedding, but not the tarantula, with a plant mister. If it isn’t eating and moving little, I think you have a tarantula in premolt.
