Shirley Claridge Memorial Scholarship

The Shirley Claridge Memorial Scholarship is an annual graduation scholarship, for a deserving student at South Delta Senior Secondary School (SDSS) in Tsawwassen, BC, Canada. The award is offered to honor the life and memory of long-time Delta resident, Shirley Claridge, who passed away on October 18, 2011.

Throughout the 43 years Shirley lived in Tsawwassen, she showed a keen interest in the lives of young people in schools, churches, and the community. Shirley is fondly remembered as the long-time Head Secretary of Tsawwassen Junior Secondary School and 17 year employee of the Delta School District, retiring in 1988. She had the pleasure of watching her daughters and grandsons enjoy a rich educational experience through Delta Schools. She loved teaching youth Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at South Delta Baptist Church. She was a faithful, quiet cheerleader and supporter of her daughters, grandsons, and their school friends at many athletic and community events.

Shirley’s genuine interest in the lives of young people, passion for the pursuit of education, and overcoming humble spirit, is carried on through the gift of an annual $1000 Scholarship. This award is given to a graduating SDSS student who exemplifies academic diligence and who has experienced or supported another through a difficult life situation.
