Aliceara Sweetheart Jonel ‘Everglades’ was bought at the 2016 TOS auction and was a division from Barry Curtis. Temperature tolerant but likes a range of 20-28 degrees C during the day and 10-18 degrees C at night. Needs to be semi-dry between watering. Flowers have a slight fragrance. Flowers measure 93mm across and 123mm from top to bottom. Grown high up in my orchid house as it likes high light.

Encyclia fausta? Photo: Winsome Edwards

This plant came with the name Encyclia glumacea but after researching it on the internet I thought it was closer to Encyclia fausta. Brian Simmonds thought there were plants of Encyclia glumacea at Te Puna Quarry Park and thought this plant most likely came from there. Bought at the 2016 TOS auction. Native habitat Brazil. Cool to warm grower. Fragrant flowers. Needs good air movement. Grows well mounted but mine is potted. Easy to grow and reliable bloomer.

Warczewiczella Amazon Beauty was bought at the 2018 Te Puke Show from Leroy Orchids, Auckland. Natural habitat is the Amazon rain forest. Intermediate to warm grower. Night minimum of 15-16 degrees C. Must be kept moist all the time otherwise leaves show pleating. Can have several flowers at once but mine has only one flower at present.
