Plant Profile: Rotala Rotundifolia

Difficulty: Easy!

Flow Grow

Tropica

Not a lot to say, Rotala Rotundifolia is one of the most popular and common plant in the hobby and for good reason, this plant morph from basic green to stunning colorations and bushiness depending on its environment- this means the plant will evolve with you!

In Australia it comes under the name “Pink Baby Tears” or “Bacopa Floribunda” I don’t know why…It’s true that the ‘Rotala’ family has many members with different colorations, but they each have their own specific classifications. Australia be wild sometimes with the naming.

Final Thoughts

This plant has no downside…it’s easy to grow, easy to keep, easy to propagate, algae resistant and a fast grower that consumes ammonia and nitrogen from your tank, furthermore this plant will reward you with stunning colorations if you choose to go high tech.

When starved of nitrogen and given intense lighting, this plant will display pink/red colorations- a great signalling plant! Frequent trimming and replanting will cause this plant to form into a dense bush which it does very well in.

If you want to start learning the effects of nutrient control on plant forms/colorations then there is no better species to go with, oh did I mention that this plant can withstand Discus water parametres? 30 degrees!

Bam!
