Arctostaphylos columbiana, also known as the hairy manzanita, is an evergreen shrub native to the Pacific Coast from Northern California to British Columbia. The largest populations can be found in Southwest Oregon where it often grows on western-facing slopes.

Belonging to the Ericaceae family, its flowers have a characteristic “bell”-like shape. Fruit of A. columbiana has a seed-coat which requires scarification(weakening) before germinating, which can be provided in the stomach of animals or by fire.
