Myosotis palustris 'Unforgettable'

variegated forget-me-notMyosotis palustris 'Unforgettable' (PP# 17,796)
  • common names: forget me not
  • flowering season: heaviest in May and June, and lightly later on if kept well watered
  • height: 6 to 10 inches, spreading to 18 inches
  • Light requirements: partial shade to shade
  • Soil requirements: rich humusy soil
  • Water requirments: moister soil than average; shouldn't be allowed to dry out
  • Growth habit: a low clump of shoots
  • Leaf type: 1 or 2-inch long, oblong leaves
  • Ways to use it: at the front of a garden bed, or added as a colorful focal point to a container garden
  • Special characteristics: needs shady, moist ground for best growth
  • Other points of interests: attracts butterflies
'Unforgettable' has small baby-blue flowers in late spring on leaves that have creamy white margins. It grows as a low clump-forming plant. Watering more frequently is recommended than for most garden plants because if you let it dry out too much the edges of the leaves brown, and if carried even farther, the lack of moisture in the ground will be its demise. USDA Zones 4 - 8.

We grow this variegated forget-me-not as a perennial although it takes a bit of extra effort. If planted in a location to its liking it will be long lived. And what it likes is partial shade or filtered light, and soil that doesn't dry out thoroughly. If planted in average garden conditions with an average amount of watering it may not last but a couple of years.
