Scapania nemorea

English name: Grove earwort

A leafy liverwort with broadly rounded leaf lobes that have long teeth around their margins and dense clusters of brown gemmae on the tips.

In Scotland, Scapania nemorea is mainly found in woodlands in lowlands and vallyes where it grows on mossy banks, boulders, rotting wood and on moist ground. It is also found in more open habitats such as moorland. BBS distribution map

Look out for Diplophyllum albicans, Lophocolea bidentata, Mnium hornum and Plagiochila porelloides nearby.
