Phuket Vegetarian Festival is one of the most Famous and Popular festivals in Phuket. The time of the festival is on the ninth Lunar Month, Therefore, its timing is different from a year to another.
Phuket is considered to be the most famous Province celebrating this festival in Thailand. The reason is because this Festival is a Chinese celebration for the 9 emperor Gods, and around third of Phuket Population have Chinese Origins.
The Celebrations for This Festival Run for around 9 days. It is Considered to be one of the most Weird and extreme festivals in Thailand. It is not really recommended for kids to join the celebrations. They might see aggressive Acts with hard weapons inside the bodies, Piercings, etc…
Tourists are allowed to join the event and Take Photos. However, they have to keep distance for the Celebrations and shows prepared by Locals to be Performed without distractions. While You are in the Event, You may feel that this Festival is Just a cultural Event. However, You have to show respect while joining the celebrations as it is a religious Celebration and not just cultural.
Pregnant Women are not supposed to attend the Phuket Vegetarian Festival.
During the Festival, There are Several Food Stalls and restaurants offering Vegetarian Food Meals. You will be Surprised because the vegetarian food Served looks exactly same as the meat (Fish, Beef, Pork,..). However, all the Food is Vegetarian and doesn’t include any kind of meats.
Where to Celebrate Phuket Vegetarian Festival
To celebrate this Festival, You will have to visit Specific Districts in The Phuket island. The Celebrations are not held in Touristic area and beaches such as Patong Beach or Karon Beach. The areas// Districts where the celebrations are held are: Kathu, Phut Jaw, Jui Tui and Cherng Talay.
