Our Guide To Keeping White Tail Acei Cichlid Fish

  1. About Fish Species:

    • Scientific name: Pseudotropheus sp. Acei
    • Common name: White Tail Acei
    • Family: Cichlidae
    • Origin: Lake Malawi in Africa
    • Adult length: 12 cm (4.7 inches)
    • Lifespan: 8 to 10 years
  2. Tank Setup:

    • White Tail Acei prefer rocky habitats, so provide a tank with plenty of rocks and caves to mimic their natural environment.
    • Ensure the tank has open swimming spaces as well.
  3. Water Parameters:

    • White Tail Acei thrive in alkaline water conditions with a pH range of 7.5 to 8.5.
    • Keep the water temperature between 24 to 28°C (75 to 82°F).
  4. Filtration and Water Flow:

    • A moderate water flow is suitable for Yellow Tail Acei.
    • Choose a filter that provides gentle to moderate flow and ensure good filtration as they are sensitive to water quality.
  5. Diet:

    • White Tail Acei are omnivores and will accept a variety of foods.
    • Offer them a balanced diet consisting of high-quality flake or pellet food as a staple.
    • Supplement their diet with occasional treats of live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and spirulina to enhance their coloration.
  6. Tank mates:

    • White Tail Acei are relatively peaceful cichlids but can be territorial, especially during breeding.
    • They are best kept with other peaceful Lake Malawi cichlids of similar size and temperament.
  7. Behavior and Compatibility:

    • White Tail Acei are active swimmers and may exhibit some aggression, especially during breeding.
    • Avoid keeping them with aggressive or significantly smaller tank mates that may become targets of aggression.
