The European Worm Lizard (Blanus cinereus), also called the Iberian Worm Lizard. This species is a small, legless, burrowing reptile. Adults may reach a total length of 10–20cm (4–8in). It is found in the southern section of the Iberian Peninsula, southwards of rivers Ebro and Douro.

Its natural habitats are varied, from temperate forests, temperate shrubland, Mediterranean-type shrubby vegetation and temperate grassland to arable land and pastureland.

The European Worm Lizard can often be found under logs and rocks, especially after storms. They have also been found inhabiting ant colonies. Like other amphisbaenids this species is a timid animal that feeds on worms and other small invertebrates. This species is threatened by habitat loss.
