Reindeer Moss

Reindeer Lichen, Reindeer Moss
Reindeer Moss, (Cladonia rangiferina)
Walk 15-minutes from the PGT Center to The Point and you will find large areas of the ground covered by Reindeer Moss. Reindeer Moss is actually not a moss at all but a lichen. I’ve read that in the far north of our planet, where they’re aren’t any trees, animals have to find something else to eat, and for much of the year the reindeer (caribou) subsist on the carpets of reindeer lichens that cover the ground. I’m not sure if any animals eat the Reindeer Moss that we have but I do know that clumps of it can be used when creating miniature trees for architectural models.
