Los Angeles, CA &mdash; LAIT911 is calling on community members to step up and make a difference in public safety by volunteering for the Hansen Dam Trail Watch team. Known for its beautiful scenery and popular hiking trails, Hansen Dam is also a hotspot for vegetation fires and hiker-related injuries, making this role crucial for the community.
A Growing Need for Vigilance
Hansen Dam sees frequent vegetation fires due to its dry conditions and high temperatures, posing significant risks to both the environment and park visitors. Additionally, the area often witnesses hiker-related injuries, especially heat-related illnesses, during the hotter months. LAIT911's initiative aims to address these issues by having a dedicated team of volunteers on the ground.
Role Overview
Volunteers will patrol Hansen Dam in teams of two, looking for signs of fire and assisting visitors suffering from heat-related illnesses. This role requires deployment on high heat-risk or burn-risk days, particularly on weekends and holidays. Shifts typically last five hours, with lunch usually provided.
Key Responsibilities




<ul><li>Patrol the park in teams</li><li>Monitor for signs of fire and assist at-risk individuals</li><li>Maintain constant radio contact with LAIT911 dispatch</li><li>Coordinate with LAFD, LAPD, and LA City Park Rangers</li><li>Serve as a proactive public safety presence</li></ul>
Requirements




<ul><li>Physically fit to hike in severe heat, carrying a ~20lb+ backpack</li><li>Certified in First Aid (LAIT911 can assist in achieving this certification)</li><li>Frequent travel to Hansen Dam (travel reimbursements available)</li><li>Deployments 4-5 times per month</li><li>Complete rigorous training and testing</li></ul>
Uniform and Equipment

<ul><li>Uniform provided (except boots and pants)</li><li>All necessary equipment and supplies provided by LAIT911</li></ul>
Positions Available

<ul><li>Two supervisor roles, which require more training, responsibility, and time flexibility</li><li>Five responding member roles</li></ul>
