Zelkova schneideriana

Very rarely seen or planted, this Chinese elm relative has made good specimens at Kew and Castle Howard for example and elsewhere. A low wide elegant tree with sometimes very distinctive heavy, low, sinuous branches. The attractive warm red-brown and grey bark exfoliates in small plates. Handsome tapered foliage gives good autumn tints. Reaching 8 to 10m in height.
