Hi guys, I really want to get some of this moss. I have found a store in US that sells it...but sells it at like 89$ for a 5 foot square area of pure moss. Apparently they deal with landscaping in front of offices etc. Do anyone of you guys...especially the bog surfing guys have access to some of this moss? I would love to get a couple of wads of this moss. Maybe a trade can be arranged. cheers, varun

Looks like Polytrichum to me. Polytrichum strictum grows well in restored bog... i wont be on any fieldtrip before august, but I'll try to think of you then if you haven't found any by that time EDIT: I should learn to read the title of the post first... it's indeed Polytrichum apparently

Thanks Tom. I really appreciate it. I would love to get some of P.strictum. My personal favourite is p.commune. But, well, all polytrichum are nice. . I am waiting till april to see when these things start making spore heads. Then it will be a pure source of moss. Anyways....please keep me posted. I have been looking for this for months now. I don't think I will find another source. I don't mind waiting till august though. thanks, V

Hey! Titom gave me a Heli Minor that originated from dom... I THINK that some of this moss is sprouting up from beside the middle of the plant, If it ever overtakes the pot I'll send you a chunk, however Tom will probably get you some before that! Cya Edit: Come to think of it I think I got a pile of it growing in my woods (Very swampy boggy, however no CPS ) I'll take a look and if I see any I'll grab some how much did you want? 1 square foot 2-3-4-5-....?

Insectivore: it is indeed a form of Polytrichum, Most of Dom's plants had it naturally sprouting in it. I have to see if it's P. commune or strictum, but it's a polytrichum for sure

Well..please don't overharvest the bog vinc.....but how much polytrichum is there?? If there is a lot... 2 sq foot would be great. ;D could u possibly do me a favor and show me a picture of it?? Reason I ask is that I don't want it to go to waste. The following are a few pics for ID: P.strictium P.commune P.juniperum I realise its very hard to distinguish species unless they have spore capsules up....and even if they do....sometimes its still hard without a microscope. Anyways.... thanks vinc. Do keep me updated. I find this moss is the best to use as ground cover. Unlike sphagnum, it doesn't compact. But unlike sphagnum's ability to sponge off water...it needs a bit higher humidity to stay nice and healthy.
