Sony Ericsson launches C510 Cyber-shot phone

The C510 has been officially launched with Sony Ericsson announcing the new device on the eve of CES 2009.

Codenamed "Kate", the phone was rumoured for quite some time and it has finally made its official debut on the eve of the CES at Las Vegas. Claimed to be the most affordable Cyber-Shot branded phone from the company, the C510 reportedly possesses a host of new features and camera technologies hitherto unheard of in cell phones.

Hitherto unheard of, you ask, really? Behold. The 3.2 megapixel camera unit boasts of a sliding lens cover, auto-focus, face-detection auto-rotation and the option to upload videos directly to YouTube. The C510 also brings the Smile Shutter technology to mobile phones. The technology helps the phone detect when someone is smiling and takes a snap at the precise moment. This feature had recently made its entry into Cybershot Camera's and now finds its way into phones. Select existing Cybershot branded phones will be able to integrate this feature with the help of a software update.
