10 of the most exciting plants from this week's National Plant Show - Michael Perry

The National Plant Show has rapidly become the essential visit that should be in every plant growers diary, thanks to it’s laid back atmosphere, spacious layout and excellent portfolio of suppliers and plants. The Midlands location in the UK is also rather handy too!

Here are the 10 most exciting plants from the day!

: Alocasia ‘Dragon Scale’ stopped me in my tracks, thanks to it’s textured foliage with a green blush! This is a houseplant, and a damn handsome one at that!

: Dianthus ‘Tequila Sunrise’ has a large, open faced flower, pumped with fragrance as any good carnation should be too! Fabulous cut flower with awesome, strong stems!

: Calla ‘Frosted Queen’ is another show-stopper- I cannot wait to see this one more widely grown. The variegation will likely make it weaker, and smaller growing than other cultivars- but that’s no bad thing!

: Mulberry ‘Charlotte Russe’ is the RHS Chelsea award winning variety of dwarf Mulberry- bringing a huge garden tree right down to patio size!

: Gloxinia ‘Pink Spot’. I thoroughly approve of the revival of the Gloxinia. Although their foliage needs a bit of space, they make handsome houseplants, they also enjoy a little summer patio holiday!

: Peperomia ‘Raindrop’. Another plant experiencing a revival, and with some fancy new breeding too! Super shiny and the perfect houseplant!

: Adenophora ‘White Blaze’ is looking very much like a ‘Tree Campanula’, with towering flower stems, blushed with icy blue! A fine border perennial.

: Hydrangea ‘Rembrandt Vibrant Verde’ has the most intriguing green flowers. Set to be loved by florists and gardeners alike!

: Tomato Farmzy Zedanna may need a better marketing name in the future. A very exciting development in ‘towering tomatoes’, with good shaped fruits too.
