The Helianthus annuus, is also called the Solar Flower or the Dawn Flower. Its name is derived from its sun-tracking behavior, as it turns in response to the sun’s movement.
Belonging to the order Asterales, family Asteraceae, and genus Helianthus, it is an annual herbaceous plant that stands about 1–3.5 meters tall. Its stem is erect, polygonal in shape, and adorned with white bristles. The leaves, which are coarsely toothed at the edges and rough on both surfaces, alternate along the stem.
Helianthus annuus bloom in the summer with large flowers, each head producing only a single flower with yellow edges. The flower disc contains seeds that are brownish-black in color.
