Description
It is a tall tree: it can reach 20 meters. The leaves are deciduous, and have a pinnate shape: from a central nerve, different leaves come out. They are dark green in color and turn red or orange in autumn before falling.
It is a dioecious species: there are male and female specimens.
The flowers are very small and red. They open before the leaves come out in early spring. The fruit is also very small and red.

In China it is a widely used tree in road and street plantations. Its wood is highly valued for building furniture. It is also used to create a yellow dye.
It is used in pistachio ( Pistacia vera ) as a graft for this plant.
