The Nannostomus Marginatus can found across the Amazon. It is one of the widely distributed pencilfish across the Amazon rainforest. In each different location, the coloration differs with some having more intense red than the others.

The bleeding heart has recently be found in a new location that gives them a thick red band in the middle part of the body giving it the nickname bleeding heart.
