Faunal Ecology and Conservation of the Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve

Abstract

The present study was carried out to document the diversity of lycopods, pteridophytes, angiosperm and gymnosperm taxa of the Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve and enlists the plant species from different forest habitats. During the floristic survey in different locations from August 2018 through December 2019, a total of 813 species were encountered which belong to 548 genera and 143 families. Of the 811 species, 72 species were endemic to this biosphere reserve. Of the recorded species, the family Fabaceae is found to be dominant with 53 species belonging to 39 genera. This signifies the rich species diversity in this reserve.
