Abstract
Initially called spider orchids in pre–Second World War Malaya and Singapore, members of the genus Arachnis (Greek arachne, spider) are now invariably referred to as the scorpion orchids. Arachnis is an extremely important tropical genus with 15 species, several varieties and 1 natural hybrid. They are distributed from NE India and southern China through Myanmar, Thailand and Indochina to Malaysia and Indonesia.
