Abstract
The new species Pentacalia atrovinosa (Compositae) is described from the Cordillera de Cayapas in northwestern Ecuador. Among other characters, the species is well characterized by its glabrous, fleshy leaves and long-pedunculate capitula with burgundy-colored involucral bracts and ray florets. A detailed taxonomic discussion of similar species is provided, as well as distributional data and illustrations.
