Abstract
In the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, 11 species of Lytoneuron occur, of which one is new to science, L. poseidonii. Besides the 11 species, we also recognize two varieties, of which one is new, L. columbinum var. caparaoense. We also make three new combinations: L. columbinum, L. microphyllum, and L. ornithopus var. pygmaeum. Three species are widespread in South America, whereas the remaining taxa are endemic to the mountainous regions of southeastern Brazil. We present comprehensive descriptions and illustrations for all taxa, as well as an updated key and list of specimens.

Appendix 2. Abnormal specimens or putative hybrids. The following specimens present odd or intermediate morphology. They might be hybrids, but further studies are necessary
Dinato, D. O. et al. 62 (BHCB, HRCB-n.v.) – similar to Lytoneuron itatiaiense, but with much shorter and less dissected fronds; also, the distribution is uncommon (L. itatiaiense is not expected from Serra dos Órgãos).
Kamino, L. H. I. & L. Maielo-Silva 161 (BHCB) – possibly a hybrid between Lytoneuron crenulans and L. lomariacea. Intermediate morphology between these two species.
Schwartsburd, P. B. et al. 4194 (VIC) – a very odd specimen; possibly a hybrid between Lytoneuron crenulans and another unknown species.
Smith-Braga, N. S. et al. s.n. (VIC-53109) – possibly a hybrid between Lytoneuron columbinum and L. crenulans. Intermediate morphology between these two species, and both occur in the locality this specimen was collected.
Smith-Braga, N. S. et al. 141 (VIC) – a small specimen similar to Lytoneuron feei and L. microphyllum, but neither one is expected to occur in Serra do Brigadeiro.
Valente, G. E. & A. N. Caiafa 575 (SP, VIC) – same as Smith-Braga s.n. (VIC-53109).
