Cephalophyllum N.E.Br. GC 1925: 433; Hartmann BJS 1978: 264–302; Bothalia 1983a: 653–659; BB 1983b: 1–67; 1989: 93–187; Hartmann 2001: 103–113 Typus C. tricolorum (Haw.) Schwantes Etym Gk cephalos, head, phyllon, leaf, referring to species of C. subg. Cephalophyllum, with the primary stem forming a central head of leaves.
