I really enjoyed this revisionist revenge western that really hits the ground running and slowly lets you pick up the pieces as it steamrolls along so much grueling territory with the propensity of these two men(The great Liam Neeson and equally talented Pierce Brosnan) to go on is mythical and then it truly becomes more so at the end but I do have to say it keeps building to that next level that you are either on board or shut that train down luckily I am in the former category. I have to say thanks to Andy Summers for turning me on to this gritty little film cause I easily would have dismissed it and that would have been a real loss so thanks Andy!
It's been seven years since I last watched Seraphim Falls, an underseen but rather impressive revisionist western from back in 2006. Featuring Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan in the leading roles, this is basically a manhunt that starts in the Nevada Mountains before trekking South as Neeson and his hired help attempt to run down a former Union officer for an as yet undisclosed reason. It's unforgiving, brutal and violent in equal measure, and a truly compelling watch, but like most modern day westerns it struggled to find an audience. Der Konzertsaal war prall gefüllt als der Dirigent das nächste Lied ankündigte. „Seraphim Falls in F-dur“ hieß es. Darauf drehte sich der Dirigent zum Orchester und hob die Hände. Da hat uns der gute alte ClinTarantino mal wieder total überrascht. Die Chancen, dass er das Western-Genre 🤠 für diese Runde vorschlägt, standen bei - lasst mich kurz überlegen - 100 %. Wenn nicht sogar mehr 😉. Aber meinen Nerv trifft er da ja sowieso total. Der Rest musste zwangsweise überzeugt werden 😜.

In which Pierce Brosnan warms his freezing hands by sticking them into the steaming entrails of a fresh corpse…and the frontier violence doesn’t get any nicer than that. Really surprised by how little I see Seraphim Falls mentioned among modern westerns. Neeson just before going full old man action, Brosnan in his post-Bond prime, a feature-length vengeful pursuit across the Wild West from snowy mountains to grueling desert with First Blood-intense survival action and cat-&-mouse ruthlessness usually involving a giant Bowie knife. I probably know why it isn’t talked about much; the final act taking the men’s perpetual cycle of violence into the realm of allegorical purgatory likely ends this on a sour note for many. With this very overdue rewatch, I appreciated the suddenly unmoored thematic boldness.

Seraphim Falls ist ein grundsolider Rache Western, der im Prinzip gar nicht so viel verkehrt macht.
Der Cast mit unter anderen Pierce Brosnan und Liam Neeson, die Bilder, der Score und die Story dass alles habe ich davor und danach schon besser gesehen, aber auch schon wesentlich schlechter.
Der Film hat mich gut unterhalten, ist aber keiner, den ich lange in Erinnerung behalten werde.
Totzdem bin ich froh, endlich mal wieder einen Western gesehen zu haben.
This is the best action movie that happens to be a western that I've seen in years. It's a simple plot done very imaginatively. It contains scenes that I've never seen before. The two leads are fantastic (Liam Neeson's revenge-driven tough guy, and Pierce Brosnan's grizzled survivor). But it's the smaller roles that truly amazed me. Michael Wincott's gravelly voiced thug, Tom Noonan's preacher, Wes Studi's mysterious Indian, Angelica Houston's desert devil, Ed Lauter's tracker, and Angie Harmon's character all are pitch-perfect.
