It is not about storyline depth nor impactful characters,the show is all about Sylvester Stallone turning his destruction throttle to maxx power and going at it with all guns blazing n blasting. The final 20 minutes is just no holds barred bloody violence with bodies splattering all over the screen. Though nothing extraordinary, Rambo returns with an effective action drama.

This is a more modern version of Rambo and I must say it worked pretty damn well.
It still hasn’t reached the heights of the first movie, but for the first time since then, Rambo got some emotion and he felt human, while still being able to do all the badass action stuff. He also finally kept his shirt on for the entire movie, which made it easier for me to take him seriously.
The action was as good as ever, while also being much more graphic and violent with people getting their limps torn off and lots of blood. This made the action feel much more chaotic…
one of the most monstrously ugly movies i’ve ever seen. i love that stallone’s argument for why brutal military intervention is necessary is just people being turned into goopy paste for 20 straight minutes, a series of images so off-putting it actually retroactively serves as an accidental critique. Brutal. Simply brutal. What sets this one apart is the gory kills and the savagery in general especially with the villains, they're the worst kind: realistic. Absolutely haunting scenes of kids (and adults) being stabbed, burned and shot. Very strong allusions to rape in the second act. Everyone's violent and limbs are flying everywhere. The gore is effective and the action is filled with adrenaline. It's missing some better set pieces though, it's all just either forest or hutt or a mud pit. Terrible editing in some parts, why did they never fix it, it's so jarring. The story is as simple as simple can simplistically simply be; Rambo comes in, kills people, the end, applaude! My favorite of the franchise.

i find it strange that the director's cut, which i had previously exclusively watched before seeing the theatrical, is actually less violent. in the theatrical here you have a kid being shot & thrown into a burning building and absolute buckets of blood being tossed around, which tells me that stallone felt that he had 'went too far' and reigned some of the vulgarness back for the director's cut, instead choosing to add some extra scenes of rambo's character being expanded upon, but i see that now as being a clear mistake. rambo, unlike rocky, was always strongest when he didn't talk, when his body language flowed throughout a…
First of all, thanks to AS for reminding me about this movie.
Now THIS is an action film.
This is what an action film should be. Excellently choreographed brutal, bloody carnage. Not some PG-13 CGI-fest and annoyingly deafening sound effects. When I watch an action movie, I want heads exploding and shit, and Rambo provides all that and more with some of the best action choreography I've seen (especially in the second half). I'm not going to stand up and cheer for some robot named Gipsey-whatever, but I will always cheer for true badasses like John motherfucking Rambo.
Completely badass, and I love every minute.
Seriously, watch THIS and tell me it isn't fucking awesome (Protip: you can't).

Puh, what the actual fuck?
Even in comparison to the last two over-the-top parts, the 4th installment is an inconceivably inhuman, cattle-raising killing spree by Sylvester Stallone, who, freshly sprayed and pumped up, slaughters through a war zone, as if there was no tomorrow, leaving a trail of human devastation behind.
RAMBO is so fucking brutal, ruthless and rabidly cynical that it almost borders on a self-parody, only that the laughter is drowned in blood. A story exists only rudimentarily, Sly gives a shit, it's only unnecessary ballast. That's pure excess. One should actually totally condemn it.
As a completely overflowing action-bopper, bursting at the seams with self-fulfilment, this monster exerts a bizarre charm. Simply because I can hardly believe that it was greenlit the way it is.
