  • Deciduous shrub/tree, 30-45 ft (10-14 m), compact oval form.  Leaves alternate, simple, elliptic to ovate to elliptic-laceolate, 4-13 cm x 2-5 cm, lustrous dark green above, lighter below, glabrous, midrib yellow, finely serrated margin, small stipules; leaves aromatic when brused.   (Considered to have the most handsome foliage of all willows.)

  • pentandra: from the Greek penta, 5, and andros, male, in reference to its 5 stamens (the male flowers may actually have (4) 5-8 (12) stamens).
