On the arching branches of this flowering plant, plain green leaves alternate with tiny, brightly colored blossoms. Small, yellow-pea-like flowers cover this shrub all summer long. On the trailing branches, the flowers bloom in clusters at the end of the stems.
Lydian brooms thrive in full sun and poor, well-drained soil, so look for a spot in your yard where such conditions exist. Even under less-than-ideal conditions, this hardy flowering shrub thrives, making it a rare find among plants.

Genista Lydia, a plant native to the eastern Balkans and Syria, thrives in the UK and Ireland thanks to its hardiness. Even if the temperature drops to -15 degrees, it does not need any protection from the elements. In other words, this persistent, lovely plant is impenetrable. This cultivar was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s renowned Award of Garden Merit for its stunning qualities and excellent resiliency.

In Europe and western Asia, Genista is a genus of flowering plants of the Fabaceae family native to open environments such as moors and pastures. Broom is a popular name for a number of these species, but it may also apply to members of other genera, such as Cytisus and Chamaecytisus. Ulex is also closely related to Genista and might be mistaken for the latter. A majority of these plants are deciduous shrubs and trees, frequently with brush-like leaves, and masses of tiny, pea-like yellow blossoms that are often fragrant. They are generally found in the eastern United States and Canada. When an insect lands on a flower, the style flies through the keel’s top seam and strikes the insect’s underside, resulting in a shower of pollen that covers the insect. Generic name Plantagenet comes from this genus, which is a mistranslation of the Latin term planta genista. Species are made up of different kinds of organisms.
