Illicium anisatum is a medium-sized evergreen small tree of a conical habit, with narrowly oval, glossy dark green leaves. The leaves are aromatic and dried are used as incense in Japan. In spring and summer, creamy-white clematis-like flowers are abundant. Drought-tolerant when once established but an occasional summer soak in hot dry regions would be suitable. 6m x 4m
