    Phyteuma orbiculare

    'Round-headed Rampion'

Campanulaceae: a beautifully distinctive, hairless, unbranched perennial to 50cm. found on chalk grassland. The flowers are bluish violet, in rounded heads 15-25mm across, on long, slender stems, blooming from June-August. The leaves are oval at the base and narrower on the stalk. Rare and restricted to a few locations in South England.

This is one of my favourites, rare and of the most beautiful colour.

    USES:

The roots and young leaves can be eaten raw or cooked.
