A Brownwood man was arrested last week by law enforcement at a San Angelo hotel during an undercover prostitution sting.

Aaron Michael Smith, 23, of Brownwood, bonded out of jail last Wednesday on charges of possession of a controlled substance and prostitution, according to Tom Green County Jail records.

Tom Green County Sheriff David Jones told KTXS News that Smith's case is being sent to the district attorney for prosecution.

KTXS News obtained the complaint law enforcement filed with the Tom Green County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2.

The documents state that Smith had been sending text messages to undercover police officers from the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Both agencies were conducting an "undercover operation involving prostitution in Tom Green County" and Smith agreed to sex in exchange for money and methamphetamine, according to court documents.

The court documents stated that Smith arrived at 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 at the Inn of Conchos, where the undercover police officers were waiting to apprehend him.

As soon as he walked into a hotel room, Smith was placed under arrest for prostitution, according to court documents.

Investigators initially could not find any drugs on Smith when they searched him, but when Smith asked to use his cell phone to call his mother so that she could pick up his vehicle, an officer noticed "a corner of a plastic baggie" protruding from the protective cover that was over the cell phone.

According to court documents, an investigator removed the cell phone's protective cover and found a plastic baggie with more than a gram of meth inside of it.
