Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' or Satin Pothos is relatively new plant versus its close relative Golden Pothos plant. Part of the Araceae Family, Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' is native to tropical forests located in Asia. Common house plant, Scindapsus pictus 'Argyraeus' are typically planted in hanging baskets as they trailing plants with cascades up to a metre in length. They have compact heart shaped dark green leaves with variegated silver spots. “Pictus” means “painted” which perfectly describes the look of the silver spots on the leaves.

They like warm temperatures (18-29°C) and high humidity. They dislike draughts so keep away from air conditioners and cold window draughts. This makes Pothos plant particularly suited for terrariums. Bright indirect light is best however it will also grow in filtered sunlight conditions.

Do not over water or expose this plant to cold. Common Pothos plant problems are brown leaf tips as a result of dry air, yellow leaves as a result of too much water and brown spots surrounded with yellow halo’s as a results of bacterial spot.

They have pretty unimpressive flower spikes and rarely flower under normal cultivated conditions. They are typically propagated by tip stem cuttings during warmer growing seasons. During warmer seasons they highly benefit from monthly fertilizing.  Pothos plant like fertile well-draining potting soil and should only be watered when the first few centimetres are dry to reduce changes of root rot. Repot every year to two years and prune when necessary.
