Abstract: This paper comprises a list of wide variety of medicinal plants from round the world. Plants that have been found to cure different infections and diseases have been compiled with their therapeutic use. Medicinal plants are great resources for the development of various kinds of drugs. Efforts have been put into determining the family of plant, the part of the plant to be used as a cure and its geographic location of occurrence. I. INTRODUCTION Plants had been used as herbal remedy for diseases since prehistoric times. Indian Ayurveda, Unani manuscripts, Mediterranean, Egyptian and European cultures all have been using herbal therapies for over 5000 years. Unprecedented rise in population resulting in shortage of drugs, high cost of treatment, developing resistance to presently used drugs and probable side-effects of synthetic drugs has led to increased emphasis on extracting medicinal properties of plants for treatment of human ailments. List of plants in this review focuses to ascertain and highlight the healing properties of plants that are provided as blessing by nature in abundance. Treatment with herbs has minimal side-effects and can be applied to all age groups and gender. The therapeutic potency of medicinal plants can be attributed to the presence of many bioactive components such as secondary metabolites. Terpenoids, alkaloids, flavonoids come under this category. For instance, Flavonoids showed greater antifungal and antibacterial properties against many fungi and bacteria harmful to humans. Tannins also have antibacterial efficacy against pathogenic bacteria as well as anti-inflammatory properties. Saponins act as antifungal secondary metabolite. Some of the medicinal plants possess anti-diabetic and anti-cancer properties. Many severe diseases have been found to be cured using medicinal plants such as acute lymphocytic leukemia, advanced stages of Hodgkinâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s, hypertension, testicular cancer etc.
