Lighting

Due to its natural origin, Miltonia regnellii does not like it too hot or too cold. It should be protected from the hot summer sun. It can handle early morning sun and some late evening sun. Also winter sun.

In summer, a semi-shady spot on the balcony or in the garden is ideal. The difference between day and night temperatures is good for flowering.

Soil & Watering

Medium to coarse bark based orchid substrates are suitable. I use a mixture of orchid bark and coarse akadama (clay granules).

The substrate can dry out slightly between waterings, but it should not dry out. It should also not be submerged for long periods of time.

During the growing and flowering season (spring to late summer), the substrate can be deeply watered. Apply enough water to soak the substrate.

Temperature & Overwintering

Overwintering can be done at temperatures between 59 and 68 °F (15 and 20 °C). For a short time, but not permanently, 50 °F (10 °C) will be tolerated.

In winter, the orchid stops growing and needs less water. The substrate should be kept slightly moist.
