In male crown and ear coverts is lilac grey and it has broad black chin stripe. Breast and belly are deep lilac pink and lesser wing coverts are greenish yellow. Tail is blue green with yellowish tip. Females are alike but have blue-green tinge to head, peach pink on breast. They have black upper mandible. Juvenile is comparatively dull with bill orange red in colour and underparts green in colour.
