    A barb with only one pair of barbels (maxillary pair); last unbranched dorsal fin ray osseous, strong and smooth; lateral line complete with 22 to 28 scales; dorsal fin origin nearer to caudal fin base than to snout tip; a black blotch on base of caudal fin and an indistinct black band on lateral line.
