        Very prickly erect hairy shrubs. Leaves opposite, 1-2 x 0.5-1.5 cm, orbicular to ovate, spinous - mucronate, base usually acute, subsessile. Flowers axillary, solitary, pedicels very variable, 1-2 cm long; axillary spnies sharp, 1-2 cm long. Calyx divided to almost to the base, outer calyx lobes oblong or obovate, 6-8 mm long, mucronate, reticulately veined, enlarged in fruit, scarious; inner lanceolate. Corolla 2.5-3.5 cm long, white or pale rose coloured, lobes broadly obovate, obtuse. Stamens 2. Capsules oblong, 1.5-2 cm long; seeds 4, broadly ovoid, 4 mm long, silky hairy.
