This native sedge is surprisingly ornamental with narrow, green foliage growing in a fountain-shaped mound. Native to much of the eastern US, Southeast and Southern prairie states, it is found in deciduous forests, in many cases in the acidic loamy soil of low, flat areas, or on slopes rising from streams. Creek Sedge prefers shade and moist conditions, and may remain semi evergreen. In late spring green seed clusters arise from the mound. Use this native in woodland gardens, rain gardens, shade plantings, meadows, banks, or massed as a low-maintenance ground cover. Tends to reseed. This sedge is unlikely to appeal to deer, but it does attract butterflies to the garden and serves as a larval host for some Skippers. Carex amphibola is also known as Eastern Narrowleaf Sedge.
