Tell Me More...
Pulsatilla vulgaris 'Purple' will add a superb splash of colour to your spring garden. Clusters of fascinating furry buds appear in spring above the rosettes of long, silvery-grey, furry foliage. Each bud opens to display a velvety, goblet-shaped flower with a bright, golden yellow centre. Blooms gently nod on the breeze when they first open, proceeding to turn upwards as if greeting the sun. Distinctive, silky seedheads follow and are excellent cut for flower arrangements. Pulsatilla vulgaris 'Purple' is actually an herb, commonly named after the old French word 'pasque' which translates as Easter - the time at which the flowers appear. Pulsatilla vulgaris 'Purple' is happy growing in borders and containers where they reach an approximate height and spread of 30cm. Pulsatilla vulgaris are drought tolerant once established and prefer to be grown in moist, well-drained soil which benefits from full sun. As hardy perennials, plants need no winter protection throughout the majority of the UK.
